Bees, Birds and BFF

Bees...
Our wonderful bus driver was able to cram a 6hr trip into 8hrs and so we arrived in NC approx. 7PM on Friday evening. The Tribe children were outside anxiously awaiting our arrival. After so many hours in the van, the rebels were a teeny bit wound up, so we were standing outside chatting and the children were running all over, playing tag, etc. The fun was interrupted by a less than friendly "Welcome to North Carolina" welcome committee (Rafferty stepped into a nest of ground bees). The result? Several bee stings for Rafferty, we aren't sure how many, but enough that we had to give him benedryl and he was breathing weird and quite lethargic for several hours. It also convinced him that the out of doors is not a place he would like to visit. I thought I had strongwilled children...nothing compares to a scared and stubborn Bassett Hound. Kevin had to literally pick him up and carry him outside the rest of the weekend because he would NOT go no matter how sweetly you talked to him, no matter how many treats you offered, no matter how hard you pulled the leash. No, the dumbest dog on earth learned real quick that bees are not to be reckoned with under any circumstances.
The fun didn't end there. Before it was all said and done, Rocklin was stung at least 4 times, Aaron once, Parker once and myself once. Very thankful for benedryl cream!
The happy ending is that all of the children thought it very exciting to watch (from the window) two daddy's try to snuff out the bees.

Birds...
This trip was for Jerald's tenth birthday. We gave him the opportunity to pick a trip (within reason cost wise and travel wise) to celebrate hitting double digits. His first choice was to take the Ferry to Cape May, NJ and go birding over there for a day. After a few weeks of thought, he decided that he'd rather visit the tribe. Great for him, great for mom...works for me! So, off we went for the weekend. Since he was giving up birding, we decided to surprise him with a birding experience of a different sort. The tribe lives reasonably close to a very large waterfowl park...a zoo of sorts, but just for birds. We spent much of Saturday at the park and had a great time! I won't share too much, as I'm sure Jerald will be blogging about this soon. Here are just a couple of pictures:

BFF...
Everyone needs a best friend forever...or in this case, several of them. As always, we had a great time. We love you tribe and are so blessed to have you in our life. Thanks for a great weekend and we can't wait to get together again!

ETA:
Since I seemed to have confused a few people (which btw isn't difficult for some people) I should clarify my first sentence. No, I did not get that mixed up. The trip should have taken 6hrs, but took 8. So, I was taking a jab at Kev since I predicted 8hrs from the outset.
