Apparently, I had awful smelling breath this morning.
Every morning, Aaron and I snuggle for a bit before starting our day. He likes to pull the covers up over his head and pretend he's in a cave. This morning, we had the following conversation:
Aaron: Would you like to go in a cave with me for a moment?
Mom: Sure, I bet it's warm in there.
(We pull the covers up and get all snuggled, it's quiet for a minute or so.)
Aaron: What's that smell? Something stinks a small bit.
(takes a big sniff of the cave air)
Aaron: It's you. It's your breaf. Could you go right now and brush your teeth please?
Mom: I'm sorry, but no, Rock's in the shower and I'm not going to brush my teeth until get up. Besides it's not nice to tell someone they stink.
Aaron: Well, I not lyin', you do stink. How about you stay in the cave and I'll go get fresh air.
(he pops his head out from the cave and then proceeds to tuck the blanket tight all around my head so he can't smell my breath)
Aaron: Ah, that's nice. It smells nice here.
(a few minutes later...)
Aaron: Can you come out a moment? First put your hand over your mouth. I want a turn in the cave, so you can stay out a moment.
Mom: Why can't we be in the cave together?
Aaron: We can after you brush your teeth, I don't wanna die and your smell is gonna die me.
I'm thinking I should keep some mints by the bed...I sure don't want to slay my son :-)
*in my defense, I do have icky breath because of allergies/sinus drainage, but Aaron also is very sensitive to smells so it was likely not as bad as he claims.

Snowy days
Parker much preferred staying in and eating cookies while the big kids played in the snow. I was trying to get one decent picture before we went in and this was the best I could get. As soon as I snapped it he said, "Now I get a cookie?"

Most kids want to build a snowman. Not mine. Rock and Mag spent a great deal of time making paths all over the yard. They used rakes and sometimes snow shovels, a time or two, I even saw Rocklin just using his hands. At the end of day two, they had several paths leading from the door to various areas of the yard. No one appreciated it quite as much as Rafferty. the snow was so deep, he had trouble walking so was grateful for their hard work.

Jay had a great time sliding down the slide and landing in the snow. He repeatedly piled the snow up just so he could slide down and plow into it.

Aaron was thrilled with the snow this year. The last time we had a big storm like this was '05 and he hated it that year. As long as the snow kept off his face and hat he was good. He spent most of his time just running around, not really doing anything.

Life with boys...
It was time for lunch the other day, so I opened the refrigerator drawer to retrieve apples and this is what I found...

I was wondering why the big grins and everyone trying to get in a good spot to see me open the fridge. It didn't work to scare me, but it sure worked to elicit many giggles from all the little people in the house.

quotables...
We were blessed with several inches of snow last night and the children are very excited. Well, most of them anyway. Parker and Aaron have never seen this much snow and it was fun to see their reaction this morning. Parker was the first one awake, he climbed up to the window and just stared and stared. After what seemed like forever, he sighed a deep, heavy sigh and pulled the curtains closed. He continued to sit there, holding the curtain and sighing as if to say, "I hope it's all gone when I open the curtains back up." Aaron's reaction was the polar opposite to Parker's. He loudly exclaimed, "WOW" and then just sat mesmerized by the still falling snow for quite some time. When Magdalyn came wandering in, still groggy, Aaron said "Quick Mag, you gotta see this...this is SERIOUS!"
